Most of us know and appreciate the soothing clink of ice cubes in a well-mixed whisky sour, enjoyed beside a crackling fireplace in an alpine grand hotel. But if you put on your coat, walk down to the shores of Lake St. Moritz, and listen closely enough, you can also hear the crackling transformation of water turning to ice.
In a few weeks, when the lake’s frozen surface is strong enough, the world’s most glorious machines will storm onto this white mountain arena with roaring engines, while the mechanical clicking of countless camera shutters accompanies their wild chants and pirouettes on the ice like a metronome.
If you look and listen closely, though, the echoes of these vibrations can already be felt throughout the city. The exhibition Drive With Me by Fabrizio D’Aloisio is currently on display at the Design Gallery in St. Moritz. Fabrizio is one of the most influential photographers who has captured the essence of speed and style in the Swiss Alps during The I.C.E. and beyond. For many years, he has documented the extraordinary relationship between St. Moritz and the automotive world. What he has created are not merely car photographs, but true artistic compositions that reflect his vision of automobiles as works of art.
This dialogue between art and automotive culture is exactly what defines The I.C.E., particularly in its 2026 edition. And as the first extravagant automobiles appear on the streets of the Engadin and St. Moritz prepares for the start of the winter season, we would like to wish you a joyful festive season. Just don’t forget, once in a while, to leave the cheerful rumble behind, step out into the cold of the night — and listen to the promising crackle of the ice.
