St. Moritz, March 6th, 2019 – The “edition 0” of The I.C.E. St. Moritz – The International Concours of Elegance organized by Lisippa SAGL in partnership with St. Moritz and Badrutt’s Palace Hotel and sponsored by Pirelli took place last weekend. A unique event, never seen before, that brought the best vintage, classic and racing cars on the frozen St. Moritz lake and made them the stars for a full day of elegance, beauty, exclusivity but also adventure, courage and fun!
Meant to be a “pilot edition”, The I.C.E. St. Moritz 2019 was a simpler version of the unique event that will take place from February 2020. It involved just an exclusive field of participants and cars in a sort of friendly Ice Party with the aim to create a strong teasing effect and get prepared for the future official editions.
For this reason, instead of a fully fledged affair, a simplified Concours was held, with two prizes given by popular on site vote and, for the first time ever, the vote of a “Social Media Jury” by which many experts and influencers have been able to express their preference. The “Spirit of St. Moritz” price was assigned to the 1929 Bentley 4.5 Litre that -according to the public that voted directly on site- was the car that best represented the sportiness and unique atmosphere of this incredible venue. The “InstaLake” award on the other hand was given by a special jury of influencers to the famous Lamborghini Countach 25°, maybe the less snowy car of the concours but the one that amazed the most the web with its amazing character.
The frozen lake of St. Moritz for one day – Saturday March 2nd – became a true art exhibition for everybody to enjoy more than 50 unique cars of brands like Ferrari, Bentley, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Lancia. Iconic pre-war racing cars as well as those from the ‘50s and ‘60s such as the Aston Martin DB5 Volante, the very rare open version of the model made immortal by James Bond, first owned by David Brown of Aston Martin, or the Lamborghini MIURA SVJ, one of the most beautiful cars ever built, originally owned by the Shah of Iran and delivered to him by the Factory at his villa in St. Moritz with studded tyres… Or the unlikely pair of very rare special versions of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona: the elegant Spider and the brutal Group 4 racing car.
An incredible group of Pagani motor cars were there too, to celebrate this revered and unique manufacturers of top hypercars, and they performed an amazing show “roaring” on the snowy track in formation.
Classic style with the most modern technology: even Pirelli was at The I.C.E. St. Moritz to show its Collezione range, launched to offer tyres to the classic car market which perfectly conform to the philological criteria that the most passionate collectors and enthusiasts seek, combining the classic look and the most up to date technology. Like the fascinating cars coming to the lake in St Moritz to perform on snow and ice, many of them fitting Pirelli Collezione tyres.
But not only cars! The I.C.E. St. Moritz 2019 also gathered extraordinary people such as the famous designer Giorgetto Giugiaro ( recently named “Car Designer of the Century”)– whose design boutique decided to officially unveil its new concept car, the Kangaroo Hyper SUV, during the event. This new concept car was created by Fabrizio Giugiaro, who drove it personally, showing on the snow how this futuristic car is made to match really with any kind of terrain, thanks to its functionality and technology. Just after The I.C.E. St. Moritz the car was brought to Geneva for being shown to the public of the Geneva International Motor Show, surrounded by graphics and videos shot on the St. Moritz lake.
Taking place in St. Moritz – the “top of the world” and the most iconic and luxurious place in the Swiss Alps, The I.C.E. St. Moritz couldn’t wish for any better scenario for this first ever winter Concours of Elegance. Together with the beauty of the classic automobiles, indeed, more than 3000 enthusiastic members of the public came to enjoy the unique magic of a place that for decades has been the Jet Set winter Capital.
Parades of iconic automobiles surrounded by a breathtaking landscape were alternated with glamorous moments organized by Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, perfect partner thanks to its characteristic exclusive style, discreet service and traditional elegance that always guarantees to its guests an atmosphere of discreet luxury.
