All is set for The I.C.E. St. Moritz – International Concours of Elegance

This year’s edition represents an alternative format, contrasting static and dynamic moments, allowing participants to drive their cars on the snowy track often used for polo matches and horse races. The public will also have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a close-up look at these true masterpieces on four wheels that have made automotive history and that are rare to see in other contexts. This does not detract from the fact that The I.C.E. stands out among other international automotive events and is an occasion that well represents St. Moritz’s own sporting vocation and elegance, a mix that over time has made it a favorite destination for the world’s jet set.

During the first day, Friday, February 24, the lake will be transformed into an open-air museum designed to celebrate cars as true works of art. Starting in the morning, the cars will enter The I.C.E. village to be examined and evaluated by the expert jury, which will pay attention to the cars’ narrative, originality, authenticity and condition. Jury members will have the opportunity to interact directly with the owners, so they can learn about the details and peculiarities of each participating gem.

The jury for the 2023 edition is composed of prominent personalities and experts in the field:

• Vanessa Marçais: raised among the finest classic cars, she inherited her ancestors’ exquisite taste for automotive excellence. She holds the role of curator and judge of Concours within several international commissions.
• Marco Makaus: creator and Patron of The I.C.E. St. Moritz. He has worked with numerous classic and vintage car events and Concours d’Elegance.
• Frédéric Brun: expert on watches, automobiles and luxury goods. He has published several books on literature, history, and the automotive world, particularly classic, collectible, and sports cars.
• Klaus Busse: a lifelong motor enthusiast, collector and professional designer, he is currently Head of Design at Maserati.
• Michele Lupi: music and design expert, he launched and edited Rolling Stone Italia and other highly influential magazines. He now lends his creativity within the Tod’s group, chasing and creating trends.
• J.P. Rathgen: CEO of Classic Driver and a leading figure in the classic car scene. Talk show host and judge of world-class competitions such as various Concours d’Elegance.
• Augustin Sabatié-Garat: a leading figure in the international high-end auction scene and a great lover of historic cars. He regularly participates in classic car rallies and track races throughout Europe.

The most dynamic and spectacular phase of the Competition will take place on Saturday, February 25. During the morning and early afternoon hours, the cars, grouped according to their categories, will enter the frozen lake track and, in winter trim, trigger fascinating straights. The jury will thus be able to assess the chemistry between the drivers and their cars in action and also judge the style and dynamics of driving on the snowy surface.

At the end of these spectacular laps, they will then proceed with the awards ceremony, which will award the prestigious prizes reserved for each of the five categories that characterize The I.C.E. this year: Open Wheels, Barchettas on the lake, Le Mans 100, Concept Cars & One Offs, and Queens on Wheels.
